Free drop off for flood-related waste at Auckland’s participating waste facilities and free kerbside collections of flood-damaged household items finishes on Tuesday 14 March.
Auckland Council General Manager Waste Solutions Parul Sood says now the flood response is nearing an end and most flood-damaged items have been removed from affected properties, the usual fees will apply.
“We offered free drop off at transfer stations to support Auckland residents clean up after flooding and the cyclone. Now we’ve seen a drop off in demand, we will revert to normal fees from Wednesday 15 March.
“If you haven’t already, please complete your clean-ups prior to next Wednesday to make use of the free service.”
Only flood-damaged items can be dropped off at the participating waste facilities or collected kerbside for free. This doesn’t include building waste - residents need to arrange for this to be collected and disposed of at their own cost.
“We understand there may be some exceptions. Residents should call the council on 0800 22 22 00 to discuss these,” Parul says.
Around 5700 tonnes of flood-damaged household items have been disposed of at the 15 participating transfer stations since the first flooding event on 27 January 2023.
