Want to get the whole family involved and save our backyard birdsong? Here are some fun activities you can do together:
- Become backyard detectives and set up tracking tunnels to find out what creatures are hanging out in your backyard or watch Ranger Glenn’s pest detective video.
- Have you got rats in your backyard? Build a trapping tunnel for a Victor trap. This will increase your chances of catching a rat and make the trap safer for other creatures.
- Investigate your leaf litter to find out what critters are living in there!
- Make your own binoculars.
- Build a piwakawaka/fantail nest and a wētā house to encourage them to make a home in your backyard.
- Start a bird café to feed birds in your backyard. Ranger Glenn has a great video on feeding birds.
- Make window decals to prevent birds from flying into windows and getting injured.
- Create a bird-safe collar for your cat to help protect native wildlife.
- Try these fabulous tree-related activities, including tree yoga and how to make your own 3D tree.
- Check out more great content and ideas from Ranger Glenn here.
