More than $100,000 in grants have been made to 33 community groups but Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Boardis warning that with budget constraints its grants programme could look different in the future.

“Grants are a fundamental part of what we do to help the community groups that do much to benefit our people,” chair Tauanu’u Nick Bakulich says,

Applications exceeded available funds, with some applications declined and others only partly funded.

In the education space, Māngere College received funding for student trip costs to  Coromandel, Action Education for 20 spoken word workshops at McAuley High School, and David Riley for eight bilingual Pacific superhero children's books.

Other notable funding included New Zealand Eid Day Trust, Habitat for Humanity for Healthy Home Intervention items in high needs areas, Auckland Softball Association for its leagues and tournaments, Pet Refuge New Zealand for its work, and YMCA for sports camps.
