Three community organisations will share $140,000 from Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board’s Strategic Partnerships programme in its fourth funding round.
The board will partner with Rākau Tautoko, Jimmel Sports, and Mad Ave to enable them to better serve the area’s people.
“Their proposals align with our priorities and have the potential to become self-sustaining,” board chair Maria Meredith says.
“We are committed to seeing local groups thrive and these partnerships will help forge long-term relationships. After a few years we expect the groups to have developed the capacity to source funds elsewhere, while maintaining their connection with us.
“We’ve already had great successes, Synergy, Te Karanga Charitable Trust (TKCT) and TGTB Charitable Trust both having come through the programme.”
The partnership programme distributes multi-year grants that support local groups delivering outcomes identified in the local board plan.
Applicants can apply for up to $60,000 over three years, with grants able to be used to contribute to wages and salaries, operational costs, and access to organisational support.
Meredith says the programme also provides specialist services around governance, strategic and financial capacity, and funding workshops and development.
Rākau Tautoko delivers community projects, research, development and leadership advice, and builds engagement while empowering other groups. It has been allocated $60,000 over three years to build on existing partnerships, maintain community-led processes and partner with youth organisations.
Jimmel Sports encourages youth into sport. It received the same funding to contribute towards an administrative role that will enable it to continue with its events and programmes, work with venues and schools, organise bookings, source equipment, increase communication and improve its systems.
Mad Ave Community Trust was allocated $20,000 for its third year in the programme to support a role responsible for managing accountability, projects and seeking government contracts, and mental health and cultural competency accreditations.
All recipients must report back to the board to ensure accountability.
