Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board business meetings will now be held at 560 Mt Albert Road, Three Kings until further notice.
The board has decided to relocate its meetings to a better equipped facility to continue its hybrid meeting approach, enabling public and staff to attend meetings wherever they are. This decision ensures the board is doing its part to reduce costs by avoiding costly expenditure on upgrading the current local board office.
Board chair Maria Meredith explains with current budget limitations it is more practical to move to a fully functioning space until there is a more cost-efficient approach.
“Unfortunately, the board room at 7-13 Pilkington Road in Panmure no longer provides the minimum requirements for the local board to conduct its business with inadequate technology and limited space. We have old technology that is no longer working, and we want to be able to seat more people who wish to attend our meetings in person – which currently isn’t possible.”
The size of the current board room poses constraints for all, board members, staff and public to be comfortably seated together in the room with adequate distancing. Smaller meetings by appointment with board members will still be held at the current local board office.
“While budget reductions are being sought, there is no quick solution to this situation. We’ll utilise what is currently available to us as we work out a suitable plan, with a space that will be more accessible to our community as well,” Chair Meredith says.
Monthly business meetings are still open to the public and can be attended in person or online. Agenda and minutes are published here. If you’d like to present an item of interest to the community, email your application to: maungakiekietamakilocalboard@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz
To access information and services offered by the council, customers can continue to visit Panmure Library, 7-13 Pilkington Road for in-person assistance. In 2021, the council moved away from stand-alone service centres in local board offices and towards a more integrated approach, leveraging off some of our libraries to create community hubs.
