At the May 2023 business meeting, Puketāpapa Local Board approved 20 applications from organisations for operational costs that help deliver benefits for the community.
Puketāpapa Local Board Chair, Ella Kumar finds allocating grant funding can be tough as all applicants do outstanding work, however the board prioritises applications that align with its objectives for the area and its community.
“It’s a good outcome for the board to fund groups that help wider parts of our rohe so together we can serve the rest of the community,” says Chair Kumar.
More than $290,000 of grants funding was requested in this round. With that figure far exceeding the available budget, some applications were declined, and others were partly funded.
Among the successful applicants were Roskill South Kindergarten for funds towards a Māori liaison, storybook transcription and printing; Mountains To Sea Conservation Trust to contribute costs to deliver their Taylors Bay event; and No. 3 Roskill Theatre to fund stage rental and set-up. Funds are allocated to groups across various sectors such as arts and culture, community, environment, events and sport and recreation.
Grant funding was allocated to the following entities:
- Anxiety New Zealand
- Asthma New Zealand
