With the draft Upper Harbour Local Board Plan now out for consultation, board member Callum Blair wants to hear from residents to make sure the plan meets their needs.
“Albany boasts premium shopping, a large business district, public transport and fantastic sports facilities. To make the most of these you have asked for better planning to create a 'Heart for Albany' and we’ve taken that on board when making our plan.”
Blair says that board members spent considerable time reviewing and discussing community feedback from past consultations and from that developed the draft plan.
The plan includes five key areas – people, community, environment, places and the economy with key objectives and initiatives the board wants delivered listed under each area.
Along with the Albany Centre Plan, other place initiatives are delivering the Upper Harbour Greenways Plan 2019 and investing in wayfinding signage for the walking and cycling network.
“We need your help to check that the objectives and initiatives outlined here are the right ones for our area.
“Talk to your local board members and tell us if we have got it right,” Blair says.
Feedback must be received before the consultation closes at 4pm on Monday 14 August.
Ways to have your say
There are a range of ways that the Upper Harbour community can have their say.
For those who value in-person conservations, want to know more about the plan from board members, and give feedback, there is a world cafe style event on Monday 7 August, 1pm-3.30pm at the Albany Village Hall, 21 Library Lane, Albany. To find out more, email upperharbourlocalboard@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz
Local organisations are hosting community events during July and August. Residents are invited to share their ideas about the plan with neighbours, community leaders and board members.
Another way to give feedback and view the plan, is online at akhaveyoursay.co.nz/localboardplans website or at Albany Village Library, where people can also pick up a submission form.
