Consultation on the Whau Local Board's three-year plan closes on Monday 14 August and the board is asking communities not to miss the chance to give feedback.
The draft plan guides decisions on how the Whau area is managed by the board and how they shape their priorities. This can have a significant influence on local community facilities and services.
Whau Local Board chair Kay Thomas says it’s important for every resident to have their say.
“The board is committed to working for the betterment of our area. The plan is a summary of the feedback you have given over the past few months."
“There’re only four days left for consultation. Please take some time to read our plan and we’re keen to hear from every one of you.”
The board has five priorities that will steer their decisions over the next three years: Our people, Our environment, Our community, Our places, Our economy. Delivering outcomes for Māori and taking action on climate change are also important features of the plan.
Take a look at the board’s priorities regarding people and environment here, and explore how the other priorities will impact the Whau area.
Priority 3: Our Community
The board will advocate for additional funding to deliver a complete Te Hono (Avondale Community Centre and Library) project without the need for staging. The Whau Aquatic and Recreation Centre is very important for the local communities and the board is hoping to retain the Centre and allocated budget in the 2024-2034 Long-term Plan.
Priority 4: Our Places
The board is committed to delivering high-quality active transport connections and improved public transport services. They are keen to explore options to deliver a multi-storey New Lynn park-and-ride facility to increase transit use, reduce vehicle kilometres travelled, and encourage mode shift.
Priority 5: Our Economy
The Whau Local Board will advocate for quality, sustainable urban development in the area to boost local economy. In the meantime they aim to look for opportunities for youth skill development and continuing education.
Ways to have your say
There are several ways for the Whau community to have their say.
For those who prefer to connect through kōrero in person, there is a drop-in session this afternoon at Blockhouse Bay Library. You can find the details here.
