Takapuna’s newly revitalised Waiwharariki Anzac Square is about to come alive with a range of play activities for kids funded by the Devonport-Takapuna local board just in time for the holidays.
Run by Auckland Council’s Out and About team, the board funded the play events to celebrate Takapuna’s new central square that was opened by Eke Panuku in early September.
Local board chair Toni van Tonder says the board wants the people of the shore to really get out and enjoy the new heart of Takapuna.
“We want Takapuna to be dynamic, lively and an absolute draw card for locals and visitors. Now that the new public space, Waiwharariki, is opened, the Board is keen to showcase its potential.”
Activities coming to Waiwharariki Anzac Square include Junk Play, a pop-up, loose parts playground where kids reuse and repurpose the materials using their imagination; Hungerball, an award-winning New Zealand play concept where kids play versions of popular ball sports in an inflatable arena; and Circus in the Square, where people of all ages and abilities can learn juggling, hula hoop, acrobatics, ribbons, spinning plates and other circus skills.
