On Sunday 12 November 2023, Auckland Transport (AT) is transforming the bus network in West and Northwest Auckland to connect people to more places more often. These areas are growing with more houses, jobs, and people needing to travel, and are currently not well served by public transport. The transformation will be the biggest improvement to West and Northwest bus services since 2017 and will double the number of people within walking distance of a frequent bus route.
“From November, we will be running more services, more often, more reliably, with more frequency,” says Pete Moth, Service Network Development Manager. “The network will be based around not just commuters heading into the city, but also around people travelling across West Auckland.”
At the heart of the network is the new WX1 Western Express connecting the Northwest Centre and the City Centre. It will run every 10 minutes from 7am to 7pm, and then every 15 minutes until 11:30pm, seven days a week, and will become the quickest way to travel between West Auckland and the City Centre using public transport.
A range of local bus routes are also being introduced for easier trips and connections to trains and other bus services. Local buses will run more often, and most services will run later in the evenings.
You can read about all the new services on AT’s website: West and Northwest Auckland's new bus services from 12 November 2023 or find out more at one of these drop-in information sessions.
