Updated (15/11): Caton Road
Vector has begun work on Caton road, while AT finalises designs for permanent repairs. Before repairs to the road can start, Vector needs to remove a power pole, and locate the power line underground. These works are expected to take from 9 to 27 November 2023.
On Thursday 23 November, there will be a full road closure during the day, to safely remove the power pole.
Once Vector’s work is completed, AT’s contractor Ventia will begin repairing the road. This is expected to begin late November and take eight to ten weeks to complete. Work will stop for the Christmas/New Year shut down, from 22 December to 8 January.
We will use a mix of stop/go signs, and traffic lights, and a lower speed limit to provide access during works. Traffic controllers will help to manage vehicle access during road works.
The repair work includes.
- Installing a steel pile retaining wall with a row of steel anchors to support the road
- Improving stormwater drainage by reinstating the existing culvert and installing two manholes.
- We will also install a new pipe from the outlet of one of the manholes to take water down to the bottom of the gully – this pipe is within the property of 16 Caton.
- Reinstating the road and bringing it back to the original level.
Weather could impact our work and at times cause short delays to our work.

Updated (15/11): Ahuroa Road
Slip repair work began on Monday 13 November 2023, between 955 Ahuroa Road and the intersection of Ahuroa Road and J. Tolhopf Road. This work is taking place within the current road closure.
A design phase is currently under review to specify the exact nature of the remediation. In the interim, Downer will commence preliminary work, including the implementation of environmental controls, construction of a bench and commencement of piling operations.
Scenic Drive
Multiple slips on Scenic Drive vary in their complexity and are taking time to investigate, design and plan.
Scenic Drive North (Swanson)
Geotech studies show that the soil has stopped subsiding and localised. We have told the community about the final decision on localised repair works, and this information is also available on the community Facebook page and AT website.
Karekare
Access to Karekare is restricted to residents only.
Slip repair construction has started on Karekare Road and will take until February 2024, weather dependent. Karekare Road is closed between Piha Road and the bridge at the Regional Park while work is underway, with all traffic is routed via Lone Kauri Road. Once this work is finished, work will begin on Lone Kauri Road for a similar duration of three months with a full road closure.
We are seeing good growth from hydroseeding on both Lone Kauri Road and the Karekare Road loop.
Piha
Downer and their subcontractors are making steady progress. The swale on the eastern side has been filled and the vegetation cleared to allow for safe vehicle movement.
We constructed a bench below the slip earlier this month to enable drilling work, and we’ve now installed more than half of the beams. Once the work is completed on the western side of the road, we’ll remove the fill from the swale on the eastern side, and reinstate the swale. Our contractors may do this work during the daytime as we expect breaking and removing concrete will create some noise.
Bethells
We have completed the slip remediation at Bethells Beach and the road is open.
