From early December, operating hours will change slightly at Mt Roskill Library.

The new schedule reduces opening times by two hours – closing half an hour earlier on Mondays and Fridays, and an hour earlier on Thursdays.

These adjustments are being implemented due to Puketāpapa Local Board’s budget reductions.

Ella Kumar, Puketāpapa Local Board Chair explains,

“In 2016 the local board invested in additional library hours, increasing opening times by two hours.

“We decided to increase hours as we know our library’s services are in demand and realise it is a huge part of our community,” says Chair Kumar.

“But due to this year’s annual budget decisions, we’ve had to prioritise other essential work to balance the budget, and the board has decided to discontinue investing in additional hours.

“We’ve worked closely with library staff to ensure impacts to library users and community are minimised,” she says.

“The reduced hours have been carefully chosen through analysis of visitation rates, and times averaging fewest visits have been identified as recommended closing times to maintain the library’s availability at more popular operating hours.”

The library’s new hours are:

  • Monday      9am-5:30pm

  • Tuesday      9am-6pm

  • Wednesday 9am-6pm

  • Thursday    9am-6pm

  • Friday        9am-5:30pm

  • Saturday    10am-4pm

  • Sunday       10am-4pm

With summer on its way, Mt Roskill Library’s full range of services and programmes will continue to be available, with something for people of all ages and interests.

The new hours will not affect the Justice of the Peace service or the Citizens Advice Bureau, however access to after-hours legal clinics may alter slightly. More details to come.
