Auckland Council Libraries is excited to be reaching the remarkable milestone of four million checkouts this year on Libby this week – just in time for the highly anticipated annual Top 100 books list!
Libby, by OverDrive, is Auckland Council Libraries’ main eBook, eAudiobook and eMagazine platform. This is the first time Libby checkouts have reached the four million mark, with Auckland Council Libraries boasting the highest checkouts of any public library service outside of North America and Singapore.
Auckland Council’s Head of Library and Learning Services, Catherine Leonard, is delighted to see so many Aucklanders enjoying our digital collections.
“We’re thrilled to reach four million checkouts on Libby this year,” says Catherine.
“The milestone reflects the ongoing and increasing demand for digital resources and shows that Aucklanders are big consumers of eBooks. We are dedicated to continuing our efforts to provide innovative and accessible collections to support that appetite for reading for pleasure, exploring the world of literature, and for learning.”
With an extensive catalogue spanning a range of genres and interests, Libby has become an integral part of the Auckland Council Libraries experience, offering flexibility and convenience for readers.
The momentous four-million-mark celebration coincides with the highly anticipated release of the Top 100 list from Auckland Council Libraries.
This year’s Top 100 showcases some of the most talked about and interesting books of the year, carefully curated by the library’s expert team of librarians.
“We like to put a Kiwi twist on our recommendations to promote the wonderful local talent in Aotearoa New Zealand, so you’ll see something a bit different in our lists to what you may see in the bookshops,” says Catherine.
Dropping just in time for summer, readers can get stuck into the list and borrow some great reads for the holidays.
The Top 100 features books by iconic kiwis including Eleanor Catton, Sam Neill and Jools and Lynda Topp, and is broken down into 10 lists including ‘Best Beach Reads’ and ‘Life and Times’, plus top picks for kids and teens.
“Whether you’re into compelling local stories, or deep dives into real-life tales, our selection has something for everyone”, says Catherine.
