A cornerstone of the Papakura social calendar is getting a new name and venue.
StreetFest will become ParkFest, moving to Central Park on March 23 from 10am-2pm, in a move to allow the popular festival to get even bigger.
Papakura Local Board chair Brent Catchpole says StreetFest has outgrown its Broadway status, and moving the annual celebration of all things Papakura into Central Park will allow space for more community organisations, activities and family fun.
The event will also provide information around disaster management and community resilience.
“Central Park has a stage we can use, shade, a playground and has very much become the centre of things Papakura, with the Carols in the Park and Chillin’ in the Park events both evidence the park can host large numbers in a great space for fun.
“We hope a lot more organisations will take part because the larger venue means we will be able to offer more space to those involved. I’m also hoping Saving Hope Foundation will have even more dogs.”
The board helps fund the event, delivered by the Papakura Business Association, which has opened free registrations for anyone interested in providing entertainment, or as a stallholder or food suppliers here.
The board transferred $30,000 to the event at its final 2023 business meeting in December – a sum that had already been earmarked for StreetFest.
