Give a shout-out to Upper Harbour’s unsung heroes
Upper Harbour Volunteer Ceremony 2021

Volunteers are the lifeblood of communities, and the Upper Harbour Local Board will celebrate the area’s unsung heroes at a recognition ceremony taking place in June.

The ceremony is held every two years with the recognition programme based on community nominations to celebrate the work volunteers do, and the contribution they make.

Nominations open on 1 March and close on 30 April, with the awards evening being held on 14 June, at the Albany Tennis Park.

Upper Harbour Local Board chair Anna Atkinson says the programme aims to recognise volunteers who are often unnoticed but through their efforts make a huge contribution to the lives of others.

“We have amazing people volunteering their time and energy to achieve fantastic things across Upper Harbour. We want to acknowledge and thank them for their efforts to benefit others in their community.

“We are calling on our people to nominate others – be it an individual, group or organisation doing things in and for our community. It’s easy for them to do with the online form.”

There are five recognition categories:

  • Community participation and contribution: engaging the community or showing leadership and resilience in hard times.
  • Diversity and inclusion: building an inclusive environment, celebrating cultural diversity or supporting new residents.
  • Investing in youth: empowering future generations' leadership and development or supporting youth mental health and wellbeing.
  • Environmental heroes: contributing to the natural environment and climate action, environmental protection and enhancement, sustainable land practices and reducing the community's carbon footprint.
  • Champions of sports and recreation: promoting physical activity and sport, supporting sports clubs and facilities and promoting active healthy communities.

Click here to nominate an individual, or a group for their selfless work in our community and complete our simple online nomination form.
