The Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board will not provide funds for the Hunters Corner Business Improvement District (BID) in the coming year.
The decision was made because of concerns with Hunters Corner Town Centre Society Inc on non-compliance with the BID Policy in 2023 and 2024, as well as several accountability requirements and governance issues.
Board chair Apulu Reece Autagavaia says, “I acknowledge the new Hunters Corner BID Manager worked extremely hard to get it back into working order, however, it has not been able to maintain its compliance with the requirements for the Programme.”
Auckland Council operates the BID Programme where town centres, industrial and commercial areas have a targeted rate set each year, with funds used for business initiatives within their area. There are more than 50 BID programmes operating throughout Auckland.
The decision now goes to council's Governing Body to be finalised.
While council will not provide funds to the Hunters Corner Town Centre Society Inc, the society itself will still be in operation.
