It’s time to reveal Puketāpapa’s superheroes.

The local board is on the lookout for larger-than-life characters who render their superpowers or acts of selfless service to the community without expecting anything in return.

Nominate your favourite Puketāpapa volunteer and give them the recognition they deserve.

Puketāpapa Local Board chair Ella Kumar is thrilled to be celebrating local volunteers.

“We know that there are plenty of locals in our area who we are so grateful for and deserve a standing ovation for their contributions to our community,” says chair Kumar.
“It gives me great happiness to learn about these outstanding citizens around us who are so generous with their time and energy to help others. So, it is really important that we show our appreciation for them and hear their story. And hopefully it can inspire others.
“Every volunteer is a winner in Puketāpapa – so everyone who is nominated will be celebrated and equally recognised for their efforts. We want to make sure every individual who has volunteered for our community is acknowledged,” she says.

“And tightknit communities such as Puketāpapa will have numerous community champions worth being recognised – this was especially evident when everyone came together and lent many helping hands during recent adverse weather events.”

Volunteers can be a parent who regularly carpools all the kids to afterschool activities or who coaches school sports teams or umpires matches, a frequent flyer at working bees and planting days, a patient’s loved one who helps in hospitals, a coordinator who organises events and initiatives, an expert who consults in their own time at no cost and plenty others.

Puketāpapa’s volunteers can be acknowledged by submitting this recognition form with their details and what they’ve achieved by Monday 8 July 2024, 5pm.

To be eligible for recognition, nominations must be individuals whose volunteering efforts are of benefit to communities within Puketāpapa.

Volunteers will be recognised for their work under the following categories:

  • Arts, culture and heritage
To recognise extraordinary contributions to the arts sector, making Puketāpapa a much more vibrant place to live, work and play.
  • Economic development
To celebrate those who help enrich our economy with their voluntary dedication to supporting local businesses, contributing their ingenuity and ideas and inspiring the community to reach economic goals.
  • Education
To give appreciation to those in the education sector who have given their time, patience and have exceeded expectations to assist, inspire and support others to learn and excel.
  • Environment and sustainability
To acknowledge individuals whose efforts in improving or protecting our natural environment stand out and are beyond what is expected in working towards our communities’ environmental goals.

  • Social and community development – including health and social service and emergency response
To recognise local heroes who have made a difference to the community and have acted through kindness, selflessly assisting those in less-fortunate circumstances or impacted by adverse events.
  • Sport, fitness and leisure
To value individuals whose contribution is a step up from what is expected, to make their sport, activity, club or team a success.

Nominate your favourite volunteer here by Monday 8 July 2024, 5pm.
