Over $1.3 million will help deliver environmental projects across the Kaipātiki region in the coming year.
It follows the local board agreeing its environmental budget at a June business meeting.
“The Kaipātiki community have told us time and again how important restoring our local environment is to them so we’re investing significantly in that area,” says chair John Gillon.
“Key components of our activities for the next year are our continued partnership with community groups to deliver environmental initiatives and supporting our incredible volunteers in the work they do in caring for our environment.”
There is a wide variety of projects and programmes set to receive funding this year.
Birkenhead residents will be happy to know that the long-awaited Hinemoa Park pontoon will be completed this financial year. The board will also continue its support of local environmental heroes Pest Free Kaipātiki and Kaipātiki Project with allocations of $230,000 and $110,000 respectively to help with their education and volunteer programmes.
A further $108,000 will also be allocated to environmental initiatives and support.

This support not only helps us achieve our conservation goals but also significantly enhances the community's wellbeing through the ethos of volunteerism and collective action, "says Kaipātiki Project Kaihautū Chief Executive Janet Cole.
Zero waste and environmental monitoring are another priority for the board with $20,000 allocated to the new Para Kore (zero waste) Centre in Northcote, $15,000 toward climate actions projects, $26,000 toward monitoring of industrial pollution in the Wairau Valley to ensure businesses comply with environmental standards and $20,000 to water quality monitoring across the Kaipātiki region.
