Auckland Council’s representation review is open for submissions and Rodney residents are being urged to give feedback on some proposed, but significant local changes.

The review aims to better reflect the shared interests of rural communities who live in the local board area and ensure everyone is fairly represented. It asks the following key question:

Do you support or have feedback on changing local board boundaries in Rodney?

Rodney residents can visit akhaveyoursay.nz/represent to find out more about the proposed changes and have until 4pm, Thursday 8 August to give feedback.

Rodney Local Board Chair Brent Bailey says residents should take the opportunity to consider how Rodney is represented by its elected members as it may not happen again until 2030.

“Residents are being asked how they want to be represented in the future. The council must ensure the structure is fair, effective and keeps pace with region’s growth.

“The current structure has been around for almost 15 years, and now you should give your views on how you think it can be improved.

“So, take the time to read the initial proposal and consider how it will affect representation for your community.”

The proposal increases the number of subdivisions to five and adds two new rural subdivisions to the local board. Known as north rural and south rural; the current Wellsford subdivision is incorporated into the north rural subdivision.

Other changes will decrease the sizes of the Warkworth and Kumeū subdivisions to match the urban and future development zones around these centres. The current Dairy Flat subdivision is unchanged.

People can see exactly where the proposed boundaries are and can zoom in using the interactive map viewer, available here.

The number of local board members stays at nine. Each subdivision gets two elected board members except for Dairy Flat which keeps one elected board member.

Residents can learn more about the Rodney proposal by:

They can give feedback online at nz/represent, or email representationreview@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz

Bailey says it’s important that the council hears from residents to find out if they support the change.
