Christmas gets a bit of a boost

Santa
Do you think he got my letter asking for some rawhide treats? Santa will again be in town in December.

Papakura will have another great Christmas after the local board chipped in $75,000 from its grants funding to two signature events.

Harvest Community Church will receive $40,000 towards the costs of Carols In The Park in November, the popular event that gathers schoolchildren and entertainers from across the region for a free Christmas concert in Central Park.

And Santa got a bonus too, with $35,000 committed to Papakura Rotary towards all the stuff such as first aid, advertising and traffic management that he doesn’t have time to deal with ahead of the Parade on 1 December.

More than $140,00 was allocated to local groups including the Papakura Community Trust Redhill Community Centre, which received $15,000 towards youth group costs and facility subsidies.

Board chair Brent Catchpole says even then, not every grant was successful.

“There is never enough to around, so we must do our best to share what we have around to benefit as many people as possible.”

Successful grants are here.
