Building blocks for success: early childhood services extend stay in Henderson-Massey

West Auckland’s tiniest residents are set for more playtime after Henderson-Massey Local Board extended leases for two key early childhood providers in the area.

Auckland Kindergarten Association is to be awarded new 10-year community leases for three separate council-owned buildings in Henderson and Te Atatū, while the Royal New Zealand Plunket Trust is to be awarded a 5-year lease renewal in Henderson.

Supporting our tamariki

Henderson-Massey Local Board Chair Chris Carter says that supporting local tamariki and their whānau is a key priority for the board in its Local Board Plan.

“With the rapidly growing population in the Henderson-Massey area, many young people and families are making our area their home,” he says.

“Valuable early childhood education services, such as Auckland Kindergartens and Plunket, are vital to setting young children up for success.
“Supporting services that meet diverse community needs is a key priority for the board, and we are delighted to be able to play a role in helping these groups service our communities.”

Auckland Kindergarten Association

The Auckland Kindergarten Association has occupied three council-owned buildings in the area since 2015, all three of which have now been granted 10-year lease renewals.

In Henderson these are the Kingdale Reserve and Opanuku Reserve sites, as well as the Divich Reserve site in Te Atatū.

The renewal of these leases allows the group to continue to provide early childhood education services to local children between two and five years of age.

Creating nurturing and stimulating environments where children can thrive and develop a love for learning sets a strong foundation for their future education and personal growth.

Royal New Zealand Plunket Trust

The Royal New Zealand Plunket Trust has occupied space in the council-owned building at Cranwell Park since 2018 and has been granted a five-year lease renewal.

The Trust’s primary purpose is to provide for the health and wellbeing of tamariki under five and their whānau, by providing services including providing free Well Child Tamariki Ora checks and free health and wellbeing parenting advice.

It provides a place where families from diverse cultures and walks of life can come together to navigate early childhood parenting.
