Christmas is coming early for Puketāpapa residents, with the annual Carols at the Kings celebration taking place on Sunday 8 December.
Held at the picturesque Three Kings Reserve, the annual event has been held since 1958, when it was then called ‘Three Kings Carols by Candlelight’.
Over the past 65 years the event has evolved and developed a unique following as a special event to enjoy before the busy Christmas period.
Puketāpapa Local Board Chair Ella Kumar is excited to spend the evening with the wider community to celebrate the festivities.
“Every Christmas we look forward to having this precious time with our wonderful community to enjoy what is always a fun-filled evening, which includes fantastic performances by local schools, choir groups which create a warm festive vibe to the special occasion,” says Ella.
“We also want to make sure the event is as family-friendly as possible, so this year we’ve changed the hours to run a bit earlier, so that the celebration is now taking place during daylight hours (5.30pm – 7.30pm), so that younger children can be home at a reasonable time.
“It’s the perfect night to spend with family and friends, you can pack a picnic or grab some kai from one of the many food truck options on offer, and embrace the festive spirit in Puketāpapa,” says Ella.
This year an array of food trucks will be serving delicious hot food, there will also be a Santa’s grotto to check out, as well as plenty of opportunities to sing classic Christmas carols.
