Valeria Gascoigne has joined Whau Local Board following the resignation of former member Susan Zhu.
Ms Gascoigne was sworn in at November’s business meeting. She was appointed to the board on the grounds that she was the highest polling unsuccessful candidate at the 2022 local elections.
Currently, she is the manager of the Kelston Community Hub and has a long history of community development and advocacy in the Whau and across the wider west.
Whau Local Board Chair Kay Thomas says the board will benefit from Ms Gascoigne’s extensive experience leading community projects.
“Valeria is well known across the Whau for her efforts in community spaces and we are delighted to welcome her to the board.
“I have full confidence that Valeria will make great contributions to our work.
“We are now set with a full complement of board members to represent the people of Whau untill next year’s local elections,” she said.
Ms Gascoigne says she’s ready to hit the ground running and continue working to make change for good.
“Joining the board gives me an opportunity to deepen my community service and continue my advocacy for grassroots community groups in the Whau,” she says.
“I’m passionate about the environment and supporting youth, and will be looking for opportunities to create spaces for youth expression through the arts.”
