Connected neighbours forge stronger communities, and Neighbours Aotearoa 2025 brings people and streets together.
Applications are open for the annual community initiative, which is held every year in March and was previously known as Neighbours Day, with Neighbours Aotearoa grants available for communities to get together for local street BBQs, picnics, brunches or other gatherings that bring streets and people together.
Albert-Eden Local Board Chair Kendyl Smith is encouraging the community to get involved in Neighbours Aotearoa 2025.
“We’re proud to support this fantastic community development initiative that links and connects communities, so that neighbours can get together, share some kai and develop relationships so that streets and suburbs can flourish and thrive.
“Everyone is so connected digitally these days, but you can’t beat the face-to-face engagement, and Neighbours Aotearoa 2025 is a great way to meet locals and possibly start new friendships.
“There are so many ways to get involved, and the get-togethers can be street parties, or held in townhouses, apartments or houses. There’s a fantastic community in Albert-Eden, and it’s really important to invest in the community spirit of coming together," says Kendyl.
To be eligible for the grants, there’s a range of criteria to be meet, such as involving 10 or more households from the same street for the event, not purchasing alcohol, and being a local Albert-Eden Local Board resident.
The Albert-Eden Local Board has been supporting the popular grants programme for over a decade.
Applications are open until February 2nd 2025.
