Winter in Tāmaki Makaurau isn't just about cosy nights and hot drinks — It's a season packed with vibrant events brought to life by Auckland Council. Whether you're into arts, music, or community gatherings, there's something for everyone. Here's your guide to making the most of the colder months:
Warm Up in Auckland’s Pools
Winter is a great time to visit heated pools and indoor hot water spots. Some must-visit locations include:
-
West Wave Pool and Leisure Centre– West Wave is located right in the heart of Henderson. There is something for everyone, from a hydroslide and wave pool through to a steam room and sauna.
-
Tepid Baths – A historic part of Auckland City Centre since 1914, alongside the main pool there is a spa, steam room and sauna to keep you cooled and heated at the same time.
-
Moana Nui-a-Kiwa Pool and Leisure Centre – Based across the road from the Māngere Town Centre, Moana Nui-a-Kiwa Pool is a much loved community pool that has it all! Sauna, spa, waterslides and more, if you’re around South Auckland come along for a dip and a sauna session.
Winter Walks
Just because the cold is out doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy Auckland’s great outdoor walks. Here are some great paths to track on regardless of the weather:
Nestled on the side of the Westhaven Marina, this path tracks along against the water as both pedestrians and cyclists can enjoy the harbourview views rain or shine.
Ever wanted to walk above the Kauri trees of Northcote?
There is a 60m treetop boardwalk sitting 18m above the ground. It gives you a birds-eye view of the trees (including some that are between 300 and 400 years old) and reduces the risk of spreading kauri dieback disease.
