Who'll Be In To Win Auckland's Elections 2025

Is Auckland working for you? Think you could take it to the next level for your community?

Now’s the time to start considering standing in Auckland’s 2025 elections. With summer holidays just around the corner, could a role in Auckland’s leadership be the new year resolution for you?

Tune in to the webinar, Become a candidate in Auckland’s Local Elections to find out.

Change-makers, curious bystanders and those considering a new inspirational role are invited to this free information session on Wednesday 11 December, 5pm to learn about the council’s unique governance structure and get hot tips for standing.

This is a casting call for passionate locals with diverse backgrounds, who could really knock it out of the park for Tāmaki Makaurau, to stand in the next local elections.

Auckland Council General Manager of Governance and Engagement Lou-Ann Ballantyne says representing Aucklanders is a hugely rewarding opportunity.

“It’s also a big responsibility to take on, and we want candidates to have the best possible chance, so this webinar is a great place to start for anyone who is thinking of standing,” Ms Ballantyne says.
“It’s so important that a good range of Auckland’s voter demographics are represented to achieve a strong voter turnout,” she says.

“Aucklanders have told us there’s no use in voting if they don’t know who the candidates are or can’t see how they’re represented through relatable or like-minded people, so we’re doing our best to attract new candidates from diverse backgrounds to address this.”

In the hope of a bigger and more diverse contest, Auckland Council has kickstarted an early call out for prospective candidates well ahead of elections nominations opening in July 2025.

Running the city may not currently be at the forefront of everyone’s minds, but for some ,an earlier heads up could be just the prompt needed for their new career in civic responsibilities to take flight.

So, listen in to the webinar to find out whether standing for Auckland could be your next dream job.

Further information about elected members’ positions can be found here, pop into a local board meeting or governing body meeting to see what it’s all about and be ready to join the contest when nominations open on 4 July 2025.
