The Kaipātiki local board has taken another proactive step toward welcoming its newest residents with the adoption of the Kaipātiki Welcoming Plan.
“Through the welcoming plan we aim to create a place where everyone feels valued and supported,” says board chair John Gillon.
“This plan outlines key initiatives and actions that will encourage meaningful engagement, increase access to local resources and promote a sense of belonging for all. As we move forward, we will work alongside our partners, community organisations and residents to create spaces and opportunities that enable connection and mutual respect. This plan is not just a set of initiatives: it reflects our values as a community and aspirations for a more inclusive future.”
The plan is part of the board’s ongoing commitment to the Welcoming Communities programme it joined in March 2023, an international programme led in Aotearoa/New Zealand by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) to assist councils and their communities to create more welcoming and inclusive environments for newcomers to their area.
“The Local Board has provided valuable feedback and access to local resources and information to help with the creation of the plan, which enabled our team to enhance and refine the plan to better serve the community's needs,” explains welcoming Communities Coordinator Yuanyong Yang.
Existing board partners mentioned in the plan include the Kaipātiki Community Facilities Trust, North Shore Pasefika Forum, Kaipātiki Project, Pest free Kaipātiki as well as a range of community houses and centres across the region. All board partners offer a range of programmes and events for local and new residents to connect with their neighbours, learn new skills or find useful information.
