The circus is coming to the Ellerslie War Memorial Hall. From April, the hall will be home to The Dust Palace Charitable Trust.

The trust will take over from Auckland Council with venue bookings, continuing to provide space for community hire, and will run its popular circus classes from the hall.

These classes include aerial and ground-based circus skills for complete beginners through to advanced students, with youth and adult courses available from late April.

The Dust Palace Charitable Trust chair, Grae Burton, says the hall is a building rich with a history of stories, performance and learning.

“As the new home for The Dust Palace we will honour that purpose and hope, through the creation of Ellerslie Arts at the hall, to grow its legacy with our communities.

“We look forward to working with the Ōrākei Local Board, the local business, arts and cultural communities, as well as our Ellerslie families and people, to build that new legacy together."

The new three-year lease was granted at Ōrākei Local Board’s February business meeting and will begin once the current maintenance and upgrades of the hall are completed.

“The board is impressed by The Dust Palace’s energy, enthusiasm, professionalism, and commitment to bringing performing arts to the local area,” says local board chair Scott Milne.

“We welcome them to the community and look forward to seeing the next chapter of arts and culture thrive in Ellerslie.”

Ellerslie War Memorial Hall is currently undergoing a makeover which will see the community space benefit from bathroom and kitchen renewals, a repaint of the interior, new carpet and vinyl floor coverings, refreshed dressing rooms and ticket booth area, new curtains, and other improvements.

These renewals are expected to be finished ahead of The Dust Palace Charitable Trust taking on the lease on 1 April.
