Aucklanders keen to have their say on the Annual Plan might be wondering: How will these proposals impact my local area?
Out west, the Henderson-Massey, Waitākere Ranges and Whau Local Boards are shaping plans that will influence everything from community services to environmental initiatives. Here’s a breakdown of what’s in store.
Henderson-Massey: Investing in Community & Environment
Total Investment:
-
$21.6 million for capital projects (renewing and developing assets)
-
$35 million to operate and maintain assets, plus supporting local activities.
Key Focus Areas:
-
Funding for community-led events and restoring original Māori place names
-
Expanding youth voice initiatives so young people can influence local decisions
-
Upgrading Catherine Plaza in Henderson
-
Supporting water-quality projects like Rivercare (Te Atatū Peninsula), Love Your Streams EcoMatters, and inanga (whitebait) habitat restoration.
Board Chair Chris Carter says:
"We know the council faces tough budget decisions, but we’re committed to making every dollar count. Our focus is on resilience, safety, and environmental sustainability. Your feedback will help shape these plans—so don’t miss your chance to have your say!"
Waitākere Ranges: Supporting Community and the environment
Total Investment:
-
$4.8 million for capital projects
-
$13.3 million for operations and local initiatives, including an extra $2.2 million from the council’s fairer funding model.
Key Focus Areas:
-
More funding for community-led events, arts, and culture programmes
-
Programmes designed for youth, older adults, Pasifika, and ethnic communities

Environmental initiatives and improving local parks and public spaces.
Board Chair Greg Presland says:
"For too long, our funding has been frozen or even reduced. This has put pressure on local organisations that do essential work. Fairer funding gives us a chance to turn that around and tackle the many challenges in our area."
Whau: Revitalising Services & Infrastructure
Total Investment:
-
$24 million for capital projects
-
$22.5 million for operations, including $3.4 million extra for services and $3.6 million extra for infrastructure.
Key Focus Areas:
-
Restoring previously cut library hours, community programmes, and grants among other things
-
Advancing major projects like Te Hono in Avondale and plans for a new aquatic centre in Whau
-
Expanding environmental and sustainability initiatives.
Board Chair Kay Thomas says:
"At the heart of our work is a commitment to our communities. We want to hear from as many people as possible to ensure our plans reflect what Whau residents truly need."
