The 2025 West Auckland Heritage Conference Legends of the West: The People Who Have Influenced Our Heritage will explore the lives and legacies of those who have shaped the rich history and culture of the west.
The conference, supported by Waitākere Ranges Local Board and Whau Local Board, will take place on 4 May 2025 at Titirangi War Memorial Hall.
Waitākere Ranges Local Board deputy chair Michelle Clayton says the board is pleased to continue its support of this local event.

Local legends
Take the opportunity to hear from inspiring local heritage legends, bringing history to life through the voices of those who carry its legacy.
Bruce Hayward, distinguished New Zealand geologist, marine ecologist, and author, renowned for his expertise in living and fossil foraminifera, has joined as the keynote speaker.
He will deliver a keynote address focusing on the geological changes along the west coast and its rich geological history. For a sneak peek at some of his work, check out his study on Piha’s Lion Rock.
Other fascinating talks will cover the legendary Captain Tomas Wing, famously known as the Harbour Master of Manukau, a discussion by Linda Tyler of artist Don Binney’s engagement with West Auckland in his painting, Louise Stevenson from Te Toi Uku presenting on the west’s clay heritage and Crown Lynn Museum, plus an exhibition of Crown Lynn pieces.
Tickets are $20 and includes lunch from Flying Flamingos, a coffee vendor serving hot beverages and post-event nibbles. Tickets can be purchased online, or at the door (EFTPOS available).
