Storm remediation work at the existing Waiuku Trail at the north of Tamakae and at Lady Jane Franklin Botanical Reserve has now been completed, helping to prevent future stormwater damage.

Work began in late December 2024 and focused on improving drainage and stabilising affected areas.

Tamake Reserve upgrades:

  • A new cross drain was installed at a low point in the north to redirect stormwater.
  • A retaining wall was also built to support the slope and guide water flow into the drain.
  • The trail was repaved with aggregates, raising its level in key areas to prevent water buildup

Lady Jane Franklin Botanical reserve and View Road School upgrades

  • New drainage systems now manage stormwater flow, including swale, concrete channel, and cross drains.
  • The trail has been repaved with gravel to improve instability and prevent soil erosion.

Local Board member Sharlene Druyven is pleased to see the storm remedial work has been completed on this portion of the Waiuku Trails.

“These trails are used by so many people in our community, with works now completed they can continue to be enjoyed by locals.”

The upgrades were necessary after the Auckland storm weather events in January and February 2023 which caused significant damage to the Waiuku paths in both reserves.
