Forty local groups shared $566,612 in the Upper Harbour Local Board’s final grants round of the year:

  • Twenty-seven local grants supported community initiatives; 13 facilities grants funded infrastructure upgrades.

Forty local organisations have been awarded a share of $566,612.36 through the Upper Harbour Local Board’s latest grants round, supporting a wide range of community-focused initiatives and facility upgrades.

This final funding round for the current financial year saw 27 groups receive local grants totalling $103,770.36, and for the first time, 13 organisations received facilities grants totalling $462,842.

Upper Harbour Local Board Chair Anna Atkinson says the local board is proud to back projects that build strong, sustainable communities.

“It’s been fantastic to see such a strong response from the community, with applications that reflect both quality and wide-ranging impact.

“Our local board is committed to supporting groups that strengthen community resilience and financial sustainability,” says Atkinson.

“With Upper Harbour being one of the fastest growing areas in Auckland, community-run facilities play a vital role in meeting local needs.”

Local grants deliver community benefits

Local grants, ranging from $865 to $17,500, supported projects in the community, sports and recreation, arts and culture, and events categories.

Highlights include:

  • $17,500 to Business North Harbour to run a free pop-up business school for aspiring local entrepreneurs.

  • $5,800 to North Harbour Bays Athletics for the 2025 Bays Night of 5’s event.

  • $5,664 to Albany Community Action Trust for an intercultural community badminton club.

  • $2,000 to the Upper Harbour Indian Association to host a cultural gathering featuring the traditional game Antakshari.

  • $2,500 to the Meadowood Centre for a community Christmas celebration.

  • $1,500 to the Big Buddy Mentoring Trust to support and mentor boys.

New facilities grants fund essential upgrades

In its first-ever facilities grant round, the local board awarded grants ranging from $11,800 to $90,000, enabling significant improvements to community infrastructure.

Key grants include:

  • $90,000 to Harbour Sports Hub Trust for building consent fees at Albany Sports Park.

  • $78,426 to Hobsonville Marine Sports Recreation Centre Charitable Trust for site preparation and asphalting at the Upper Waitemata Marine Centre.

  • $60,000 to North Harbour Softball Association for roof repairs at Rosedale Stadium.

  • $59,991.42 to Tauhinu Sea Scout Group to construct their boat shed.

  • $31,000 to North Harbour BMX Association for facility upgrades at their Albany facility.

  • $30,000 to Meadowood Centre for bathroom and storage improvements.
