Plastic makes perfect – when it comes to picnic tables – with the Puketāpapa Local Board trialling an innovative and more sustainable way of installing picnic tables.

At the picturesque Taylor’s Bay Road Reserve in Hillsborough, new plastic tables have arrived, replacing the older, wooden tables that have seen better days.

The new-look picnic tables provide a more durable, reliable and sustainable alternative, and are made from the highest percentage of problematic, end-of-life plastic.

It’s the first time the local board has used the plastic tables, which are also a more cost-effective option than replacing the wooden type.

Local Board chair Ella Kumar says sustainability is always a key driver for the board.

“We’re focussed on delivering a sustainable future in Puketāpapa and it’s great to incorporate new ways of providing seating for our popular Taylor’s Bay Road Reserve with these new plastic seats.”
