Nearly 30 community leaders from storm-impacted communities across Tamaki Makaurau have come together to embark on Adapting Together – a seven-month leadership programme designed to grow connection, capability and courage in the face of change.

The programme supports those who have been at the forefront of local recovery efforts. It was developed and delivered by Pūmanawa Kaiārahi o Aotearoa Leadership New Zealand with support from the Tāmaki Makaurau Recovery Office and a grant through Lottery Community Funding for Change.

“The programme aims to build a network of leaders from across impacted communities in Tāmaki Makaurau to provide an additional layer of support and resilience that our communities can lean on when responding to change, now and in the future,” says Linda Greenalgh, Head of Community and Social Recovery.

“Each participant has made a meaningful contribution to their community’s recovery, and this programme is about backing that leadership and creating space for it to grow.”

Linda adds, “National and international research shows that when communities are supported to lead, they recover better – and they’re better prepared for future disruptions.”

Over the next seven months, participants will take part in six immersive retreats, ako-based learning sessions, and one-on-one coaching — all grounded in relational, place-based leadership practice.
