Community programmes, facility upgrades, new events, local environmental projects and playgrounds are some of the big-ticket items in Albert-Eden Local Board plans this financial year.

The local board agreement has been adopted, and sets out a total investment of $31.2 million and key funding priorities for the financial year 2025-2026.

Fairer funding unlocks more resources

Through fairer funding, the Albert-Eden Local Board has an additional $3.7 million of operating expenditure, and $3.5 million capital expenditure for 2025/2026.

Chair Kendyl Smith says the additional funding enables more critical work programmes being funded.

“With the addition of fairer funding we’re focussing on key strategic planning to invest into assets that require it. Due to historical budget constraints, we’ve lacked investment in these areas, and now we can allocate some of funding to areas that really need it.
“We are looking strategically at our assets and planning how we can best manage them in the future. We have started a strategic review aiming to a deliver safe, sustainable, affordable and fit for purpose community assets. We also consulted on the Local Parks Management Plan, which will guide the use, protection and development of local parks and reserves in our area over the next 10 years.”

Key projects include:

  • Coyle Park new playground – a new look and feel for Point Chev’s iconic Coyle Park.
  • Epsom Community Centre and Epsom Community Library – interior and exterior upgrade, roof work, repainting, carpet and more.
  • Mount Albert Community and Leisure Centre roof repair
  • Te Auaunga/Oakley Creek – upgrade pathways and connections
