A new raised pedestrian crossing is on the way for St Georges Road, Avondale.
The project is being funded through Whau Local Board’s 2022–2025 Transport Capital Fund. At its July business meeting, the board allocated over $300,000 to deliver the much-anticipated crossing.
Jireh Christian School principal, Sandra Bosman, says the new crossing will be a game-changer for her school community.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the board’s support. Our school has around 300 students, and this upgrade will make a huge difference in their daily lives,” she says.
“St Georges Road is a busy street, and cars often speed through despite the 50km/h limit. The new raised crossing will help slow down traffic and provide a much safer way for students to get to school.
“Because there’s no parking on our side of the street near the school entrance, parents often have to park across the road. This means children must cross a busy road every day. The new crossing will make that a lot safer.”
The remainder of the board’s transport capital fund, $656,998 has been allocated for the Te Whau Pathway-Wingate Street to Rizal Reserve connection.
