Small grants and big impact for Manurewa

Local community groups and projects are set to benefit from funding following the Manurewa Local Board’s latest community grants round, with support going to programs that foster wellbeing, creativity, connection and inclusion.  

At the board’s 19 June meeting, members considered more than 30 applications totaling over $330,000 in funding requests.  

Several grassroots initiatives received the green light, reflecting the board’s ongoing commitment to local-led projects that make a difference on the ground.  

Successful applications included:  

  • Retina House Limited  
  • Mobility Assistance Dogs Trust  
  • Rape Prevention Education (Whakatu Mauri Trust)  
  • Recreate NZ  
  • Brain Play Limited  
  • Netball Manurewa  
  • Weymouth Residents and Ratepayers Association  
  • Kaur Strength Fitness & Sport Club Inc  
  • NiuGen Incorporated  
  • Manurewa Croquet Club   
  • National Youth Theatre Trust  

Local Board Chair Matt Winiata acknowledged it was a tough round, with lots of strong applications.  

“It’s always difficult when demand exceeds what we’re able to fund. But we’re proud to support initiatives that empower our community – from youth development, sport, arts and education.”
