Everyone knows Kohuora Park, it’s the place for sports games, walks, birthdays, outings and explorations.
Now, with a $300,000 funding from the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board, the playground’s getting a long-overdue upgrade, and the local board want to hear from the people who use it most, the community.
Famous for its lively sports field, this is where the Papatoetoe Panthers rugby club plays. It’s also connected to Lendenfield and Beaufort Reserves - open grassy spaces perfect for walking and relaxing with plenty of seating, making it a go-to spot - even the famous "Bug Man" from TV has paid a visit!
The local board is giving the playground and park furniture a revamp.
The current equipment has had a good run, but it’s due for a fresh upgrade.
Consultation is open from 18 September to 17 October 2025.
There are two playground designs [3.98 MB] for the local community to choose from, and each has its own vibe.
Option one:
- junior swings
- module - climbing frames, swings, and slides
- walk the plank
- high swings
- supernova (large spinning circle)
- accessible wetpour surface
- fencing
Option two:
- swing set
- module - climbing frames, swings, and slides
- walk the plank
- See saw
- accessible carousel
- accessible wetpour surface
- fencing
We want your feedback on:
- if someone in your household has specific accessibility needs, we’d love to hear from you so we can do our best to accommodate
- which design option you prefer (option 1 or option 2)
- how you and your whānau/family use the park
- what safety features (beyond fencing) you’d like to see
- any other ideas/feedback about the space
Have your say from 18 September – 17 October 2025:
- take part online
- pop in to the Papatoetoe War Memorial Library and speak to staff
- email: communityconsultation@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz
The old play equipment will either be safely recycled or stored by Auckland Council for reuse in other playgrounds where similar equipment needs replacing.
Your feedback will help shape the final design, which will be presented to the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board and shared with the community in November 2025.
