Aucklanders are being encouraged to dust off their bikes and join in the fun as Biketober rolls into town, part of Tāmaki Makaurau’s first-ever play month – Celebrating Play.

Brought to you by Bike Auckland, and supported by Auckland Council, Biketober 2025 offers a full month of rides, workshops and community events across the region, celebrating cycling as a joyful way to play, connect and move.

From city streets to local parks, there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist, new to two wheels, or just looking for a playful way to get out and about, Biketober invites you to join the ride.

Festival highlights include:

Light the Night – Saturday 11 October
Glow up your ride and bring the whānau for this after-dark adventure in Sunnynook.

Love Your Path – Sunday 12 October
Join Bike Eastern Suburbs to help care for one of Auckland’s favourite cycleways.

Community Climate Action Workshop – Thursday 16 October
Take part in the internationally acclaimed Climate Fresk workshop with Climate Club Aotearoa and explore ways to take action in your life and community.

Bike Pecha Kucha – Thursday 16 October
Fast-paced stories, laughs and creative takes on bike life from Cycle Action Waiheke.

Cycle Safety Trail – Friday 17 October
Bring your bike to Waterview Reserve for a sundown safety trail. Learn skills, play games, win prizes and get crafty with sign painting for safer streets.

TryaCycle Adaptive Day – Saturday 18 October
Explore handcycles, tandems and trikes in a welcoming space designed for all abilities.

Bike Scavenger Hunt – Sunday 19 October
Follow clues around Colin Lawrie Fields in Pukekohe by bike, foot or scooter. A fun afternoon with spot prizes.

Bike Rave – Saturday 25 October
Mission Bay transforms into a pedal-powered dance party under the stars.

Waiheke Labour Day Loop Ride – Monday 27 October
Cycle Action Waiheke leads a loop of the island’s eastern end, with a lunch stop at Man O’ War. Registration required.

And that’s only a taste. With more events being added throughout the month, there will be plenty of chances to join in.

Biketober is part of Celebrating Play - Auckland Council's month-long programme of play-themed activity designed to put play back into everyday life. Play isn’t only for kids - it sparks joy, boosts wellbeing, and connects communities of all ages. Cycling embodies this spirit perfectly, bringing people together through movement, creativity and fun.
