Have your say from 5 November - 3 December 2025. (1.) Wai-huuhi/Mervan Street Reserve, Māngere East, (2.) Purata Park, Māngere Bridge and (3.) Kāmaka Park, Māngere Bridge. |
Take part online
Let the tamariki lead the way! The Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board are giving kids (…and yes, the adults can take part too!) a chance to share their own thoughts on what they would like to see in their local playground through a fun, interactive survey - from favourite swings to dream slides. Play your way: start the survey today!
The local board is looking to the community for inspiration as these spaces enter their next chapter.
Three neighbourhood playgrounds in the area are getting a much-needed refresh, with upgrades of up to $350,000 each:
Wai-huuhi/Mervan Street Reserve, Māngere East

Purata Park, Māngere Bridge

and Kāmaka Park, Māngere Bridge.
Kamaka playground.
Why it’s time for an upgrade
The play equipment in these parks is reaching the end of its life, and the local board is planning full renewals to create safer, more enjoyable spaces for everyone.
Because the parks are close to one another, all within about seven kilometres - we’re running one combined consultation for the project. Your ideas will help shape the final designs.
Why neighbourhood playgrounds matter
Board chair Kaea Walter Inoke-Togiamua says, “Neighbourhood playgrounds may be small, but they play a big role in our communities. Children, whānau/families, and community ideas are what make playgrounds special. This one is neat because the kids can share their own thoughts through the anonymous kids’ survey. When our community helps shape these spaces, they become even more meaningful and remind everyone that they are at the heart of it all.”
What we want to know
We’d love your thoughts on:
- what kinds of play equipment you want to see
- how these parks can better reflect your community
- ways to make the playgrounds feel welcoming, safe and enjoyable.
How to Have Your Say
Consultation runs from now until Thursday 4 December 2025.
Kids can join in too!
