Are you creating the next work that will capture hearts worldwide?
Councillor for Waitākere, Shane Henderson, is thrilled Auckland Council’s Te Puna Creative Hub has put out an open call for submissions from creatives.
“The west has a knack for inspiring world-leading art, and we want to discover the next generation of success stories – creatives who see the edge Henderson's thriving arts community yields,” he says.
Think Outrageous Fortune, Xena: Warrior Princess or Madam. They all have west Auckland creativity, locations or storylines in their DNA.
You’ll have heard of production company Tavake, which earned five nominations for break-out TV series Madam at the 2025 New Zealand Screen Awards.
Tavake is part of Click Studios, which has put down creative roots in the co-working space at Auckland Council’s Te Puna Creative Hub in Te Kōpua Henderson.
Call to action
Te Puna Creative Hub’s open call for submissions is for the first quarter of 2026.
Whether you're into live performance, film, music, or immersive experiences – this is your moment. It’s your chance to join a vibrant creative community.
Te Puna means 'the spring' – a place where people come together. Named by Te Kawerau ā Maki, mana whenua of west Auckland, Te Puna Creative Hub is calling for artists whose work celebrates community, innovation, and cultural expression.
This isn't just about showcasing your talent (though we want that too!). It's about joining a creative ecosystem that supports, nurtures, and amplifies local voices.
If selected, you could win $2,000 and FREE venue space at Te Puna Creative Hub in Te Kōpua Henderson. You would also get marketing support and wrap-around guidance along with access to the state-of-the-art spaces:
- Kōmanawa Theatre
- Takawai Film Studio
- Grand Foyer, complete with a permanent red carpet
We're seeking expressions of interest from artists and creatives whose work celebrates our guiding pou (principles): Whānau (community), Auaha (innovation and creativity), Mana Motuhake (self-determination), Kaitiakitanga (guardianship) and Mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge).
Priority will be given to local talent from Tāmaki Makaurau and wider Aotearoa.
Applications close: 11 January 2026.
Submit your expression of interest on the Auckland Economic Development website.
