Papakura Art Gallery
Previously the home of fire engines and then historic artefacts, Papakura Art Gallery is now an inspirational space exhibiting emerging and established local, national and international artists, with a focus on local culture and community development. The gallery hosts a diverse programme that connects artists to community and fosters partnerships. Papakura Art Gallery is not only funded by Papakura Local Board but is also cherished by board members.
Hawkins Theatre
Papakura’s Hawkins Theatre is the home of Hawkins Youth Theatre Company and showcases live performances, drama, civic and community events and cinema for locals. Over the years, the community theatre has hosted a variety of local as well as national acts at its 270-seat accessibility-friendly venue, bringing together community through culture and the arts. Thanks to the local board, the contemporary space is kept up-to-date and available for hire.
Hawkins Theatre was built in 1990 by Papakura District Council and named after Papakura Mayor George Hawkins who saw to develop the community’s performing arts scene.
