Summer is here, bringing sunshine, holidays, and energetic tamariki and rangatahi. If you’re looking something to do with your kids, grandchildren or neighbours, look no further!

Local boards have got you covered when it comes to making the most of everything Auckland has to offer, investing in free activities and great things to see and do.

Waitematā Local Board has funded a programme - run by Out and About Auckland - of entertainment in our parks for the younger generation, getting them outdoors and active.

A few of the activities require registration to guarantee a spot, so make sure you take a look and book in ahead of time.

1. Pickleball (6, 14, 20 + 24 January, 7 + 14 March)

Western Park Tennis Courts. Registration required.

Ready to try something new, social, and seriously fun? Head along to Pickleball Give It a Go Sessions at Western Park Tennis Courts conducted by Addison Pickleball and discover why everyone’s talking about this fast-growing sport!

Perfect for beginners and casual players, these sessions are a great way to get active, connect with others, and learn the basics of pickleball in a relaxed and friendly environment. No experience needed – just bring comfy shoes, and a can-do attitude.

2. Wild Streets Festival of Play (22 February, 10am-2pm)

Albert Park (with Hungerball)

Out and About will be hosting a free day full of outdoor games and playful activities for all ages, parents and kids from toddlers to teenagers - everyone can join in!

Short and quick games, longer games run by our talented facilitators and lots of pick up and play fun for kids and adults of all ages.

There will be unicorns, bees, pirates, rubber chickens, dress up costumes and more!

Bring along a picnic and make a day of it. We will also have sunscreen, water and a bit of shade for anyone who needs it - it can be hot out there so come prepared.

One of the popular activities which will be on offer is Hungerball. Within the six sides of the inflatable Hungerball arena, all ages and abilities have the opportunity to participate and play different variations of team sports.

3. Young Guns Skate School (28 February + 7 March, 10am-midday)

4. Junk Play (8 March, 9am-1pm)

Western Park

Conscious Kids Junk pop-up playground creates play spaces in your local parks that bring the community together in a fun and interactive way. We invite kids and families to connect, create and inspire new ideas limited only by our imaginations.

This unique and creative play experience involves repurposing junk into resources for learning, and creating conditions where children can play, invent and discover while promoting a cultural shift towards reducing, reusing and recycling.

 5. Flying Fun in the Park – Kite Day (14 April, 1pm-3pm)

Western Park

Come down and enjoy an afternoon of fun and fresh air with the Out & About team at Western Park.

Don't have a kite? No need to worry, the Out & About team will blow you away with one of their signature paper kites that is yours to keep! A fun event for the whole family that should be high on your to-do list. Be sure to soar down to Western Park and join in.
