Auckland Council recognises that communities are the heart and soul of Tāmaki Makaurau and the importance of supporting initiatives to help more Aucklanders to live well.

In line with this vision, applications for Ngā Hapori Momoho / the Thriving Communities grant programme have now opened. This fund provides up to $30,000 to support community-led projects, with a pool of $300,000 available in the year ahead.

Councillor Julie Fairey, Chair of Auckland Council’s Community Committee, encourages organisations who want to make a real difference to their community to apply for this grant.

“The Thriving Communities Grants are an opportunity to turn good regional ideas into great community projects, focused on celebrating our diversity and creating more connections between Aucklanders,” says Cr Fairey.

“These grants are for regionally significant groups, services, events and activities that will benefit residents across Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.

“The grants focus on helping Aucklanders to participate fully in our city, by increasing whanau and community financial security, improving health outcomes, and growing community and intercultural connection.

In 2025, eleven organisations received funding for projects that covered opportunities to improve the health and wellbeing of those experiencing inequity, and initiatives to support young people.

General Manager of Community Wellbeing Kenneth Aiolupotea says it’s important for everyone to be able to thrive.

“There are many community groups and organisations serving our communities who are finding it tough in the current economic climate. These grants will help contribute to their efforts to support better financial, health and wellbeing outcomes for Aucklanders across Tamaki Makaurau,” Kenneth says.
