From wild animal encounters and hands-on science to exploring our stunning natural backyard, there’s no excuse for boredom. Grab your friends and whānau, pack a picnic and let’s dive into the year ahead. 

Step outside and explore 

Our backyard is stunning here in Auckland, and with heaps of parks and gardens just waiting to be explored, what are you waiting for? 

Auckland Botanic Gardens: Wander through beautiful, themed gardens, marvel at outdoor sculptures, and let the kids burn off energy at the fantastic children’s playground. Perfect for nature walks, the ultimate family picnic and even the chance to get inspired for some home gardening. Plus, there’s always something exciting going on, whether it’s a fun workshop or a unique exhibition, don’t miss out.

Bring the little ones along to enjoy the greenery and beautiful views at Auckland Botanic Gardens.

Ambury Regional Park: Got little animal lovers? This is your spot! Visit a working farm right in the city, complete with friendly animals and easy walking trails making this a delightful little adventure for tamariki. Just remember, while we encourage every whānau to have a farm-tastic time, please be mindful to give the animals their space and keep an eye on your little ones at all times.

Cornwall Park: A classic for a reason. Seek sanctuary beneath the sprawling canopy of magnificent trees, perfect for a peaceful walk, a relaxing cycle, or simply enjoying quality time with friends and whānau. With over 350 species and 9,000 trees, there’s plenty to discover. Check out the grazing animals, make the most of the spacious BBQ areas – free firewood supplied – to share some kai with loved ones. Remember while it’s very much a dog friendly park, all dogs must be on leash at all times as this popular spot is also a working farm. 

Sanders Reserve: Head here for scenic views and open green spaces. Enjoy the walking and biking trails and if you have a dog in the family, take advantage of the dedicated off leash dog area for a run.

Auckland Zoo: Connect in nature and travel the world in a day! Home to over 2,800 animals across 130 species, the Zoo offers a unique and wild experience. Libraries and community venues: your next adventure awaits at your local library! Here you’ll find loads of free or low-cost activities like craft workshops and captivating story time, there’s even comprehensive school holidays programmes.
