A festival for the community, by the community – all welcome!

The Diversity Festival returns on Saturday 11 April 2025, celebrating the rich cultural tapestry of South Auckland.

This free, family-friendly event takes place at the Due Drop Events Centre in Manukau and has been a community fixture since 2018, showcasing local talent, businesses, food, arts, crafts and activities that reflect the many cultures of Ōtara-Papatoetoe.

This year’s event continues its focus on community led celebration, with performances, cultural displays, and food stalls bringing neighbours together in an accessible indoor space.

It’s designed to be welcoming for all ages and backgrounds, with a relaxed “come and go” format that invites participation rather than passive observation.

The Ōtara‑Papatoetoe Local Board is part of the Welcoming Communities programme [PDF 6.3MB], a national initiative working with local councils and communities to create environments where newcomers and long‑time residents alike feel included, connected and able to thrive.

The programme supports inclusion and belonging by encouraging community engagement, intercultural understanding and celebration of diversity.

Hosting the festival indoors also means it’s well placed to bring people together regardless of the weather.

Over the years the Diversity Festival has become a unique part of South Auckland’s event calendar, distinguished by its grassroots focus.

Unlike larger regional festivals, this event prioritises local performers and community participation, inviting people from across Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland to experience South Auckland’s multicultural heart up close.
