A lone playground

It’s easy to walk past the playground at Raewyn Place Esplanade Reserve in Pakūranga and think it’s tired and forgotten - but that’s about to change, with a fresh, fun makeover on the way.

From Monday 9 February 2026, work will begin on upgrading the playground, with completion expected in 4–6 weeks (weather permitting), thanks to funding from the Howick Local Board.

Located at 33R Edgewater Drive, Raewyn Place Esplanade Reserve playground is one of over 70 playgrounds in the Howick area.

What’s in store for the playground?

  • improved drainage around the play area
  • a new central pathway through the playground
  • two new seats with backs for parents and caregivers
  • replacement of old equipment with new, safer equipment designed to reflect a more natural play environment.
A swing.
With $80,796 invested in the project, Board Chair Bruce Kendall says, “The local board is looking forward to seeing this playground sparkle with new life - just in time for the term one school holidays! We remain committed to delivering quality play spaces and park facilities that meet community needs and support neighbourhood wellbeing.”

The Howick Local Board manages a wide range of community facilities, including parks, playgrounds, and reserves.

The 2023 Howick Local Board Plan highlights the importance of parks and open spaces that cater to all ages and abilities, prioritising facilities that are well used and valued by residents.
