More investment in parks, youth, or communities? Whau’s future is in your hands as Auckland Council’s proposed Annual Plan 2026/2027 opens for consultation.

For the Whau Ward, priorities include promoting community identity and diversity, providing more opportunities for rangatahi, and improving water quality and flood resilience in the waterways.

Whau Ward Councillor Sarah Paterson-Hamlin says it’s important for locals to take part in the upcoming Annual Plan consultation.

“Thanks to Fairer Funding, the Whau will have additional funding in the new financial year, redressing some of the historic imbalances that have impacted our rohe (area). However, with the rising costs of delivering our existing services like parks, libraries, community centres, and maintenance, we still need to make careful and responsible decisions about where that funding goes.

“This is your opportunity to tell us what’s working, what could be done better, where you think we should focus our efforts, and what might be missing from our plan at the moment. Your feedback directly shapes how we invest in services, facilities, and initiatives across our neighbourhoods.

“By having your say, you’re helping us make decisions that make the Whau and Tāmaki Makaurau an even better place to live, for us and for future generations. Anyone can have their say – you don’t have to own property or have lived here for decades. All Aucklanders have a voice that counts.” says Sarah.

The Annual Plan sets out Auckland Council’s services, activities and investments for the year ahead, and how it intends to pay for and deliver them in the Whau area.

The plan also aligns with Auckland Council’s Long-term Plan 2024–2034. July 2026 marks the start of year three and continues the focus on strengthening Auckland’s physical and financial resilience.
