Have your say on fenced dog parks for Hibiscus and Bays

A Dog

Dog owners know there’s nothing better than watching their four-legged friend sprint at full speed, make a new mate, or head home happily worn out after a good run.

Now there’s a chance to help shape new spaces just for them — both in Hibiscus Coast and East Coast Bays.

Chair Alexis Poppelbaum says the local board is seeking feedback on two fenced, off-leash dog parks.

“There’s currently no fenced dog park in the whole area and the nearest is Sanders Reserve in Pāremoremo.

“We know many dog owners would value a safe, fenced space to let their dogs run freely, and we’re keen to hear which locations and features are most important to our community.

“Community feedback is a key part of how we make our decisions.”

Hibiscus Coast proposal

On the Hibiscus Coast, the board is considering a fenced dog park between 4,000 and 8,000m² in size. The park would be fully fenced and designed as a safe space for dogs to run, play and socialise off-leash.

Locations being considered are:

  • Western Reserve (western end or central area) – Ōrewa
  • Moores Point Reserve – Millwater
  • Metro Park East (two possible locations) – Millwater.

Consultation for the Hibiscus Coast proposal closes on 31 March 2026.

East Coast Bays proposal

A separate proposal being consulted on in East Coast Bays, gives local dog owners and neighbours the opportunity to share their views on a fenced off-leash space in their area.

Locations being considered are:

  • Deep Creek Reserve - Torbay
  • Sherwood Reserve - Browns Bay

Consultation for the East Coast Bays proposal closes on 13 April 2026.
