Mount Albert is set to become a safer suburb to travel around – with more than $800K of transport upgrades rubber-stamped by the Albert-Eden Local Board.

The four new projects are a mix of speed calming measures (speed humps) and new pedestrian crossings, with the total investment coming to $829,684.

Albert-Eden Local Board Chair Margi Watson says safety for the community is paramount.

“We think carefully how to best allocate our transport funding for our community, and we’re pleased to have funded these four projects in Mount Albert, which promote safety, a slower speed environment, as well as unlock easier and better connections for pedestrians.
“The new pedestrian crossing on Taylors Road, which is outside Mt Albert Primary School, will make a considerable difference to children and parents getting to and from school, we’re really pleased to progress these transport upgrades and create a safer environment for all.”

A quadruple serving of transport upgrades:

  • 36 Taylors Road pedestrian crossing: new pedestrian crossing facility outside Mt Albert Primary School.
  • 62 Mt Albert Road: new signalised pedestrian crossing outside 62 Mt Albert Road, work also includes new pram crossing and tactile pavers.
  • Allendale Road upgrades: addition of two speed humps in Allendale Road in Mt Albert to make the existing speed bumps compliant.
  • Waiere Ave/Kitenui Ave: Improve the safety of crossing Wairere Avenue and Kitenui Avenue at the intersection of New North Road.

When does the work get underway?

It’s expected the construction will start by June 2026, and more information on the upgrades and completion of the projects will be made available later in the year.
